My Crazy Week

Posted on June 13, 2015 by Melanie Brown

How has your week been? I hope it hasn’t been as stressful as mine.

Well I am still recovering from an exhausting and hectic week which has involved:-

  • Driving miles to meet customers
  • Giving presentations about my products
  • Helping my three children with their homework. I don’t know about you, but it seems as if the homework is getting longer and more demanding. I find it is becoming more difficult trying to juggle three sets of homework. One of them is always trying to find a way to get out of doing it.
  • Tantrums – I think that I have become a professional referee trying to stop fights, temper tantrums and the constant, “It’s so light so why do I have to go to bed so early?”
  • Costume issues – Two of my children were taking part in their school’s version of ‘Britain’s got talent’. I received strict instructions from them as to how they should be dressed for their performance. I was amazed at how seriously they took themselves, but I have to say I was really proud of what they did and without my help.
  • After school clubs – dashing back and forth between 3 lots of school pick-ups and feeding them all.

It seems that there are never enough hours in the day. Do you have this problem?

Why do I do it? Well quite simply, it gives me the chance to plan my life around my family and my other commitments.

It is great to know that if my children need me, I can be there. If events are happening, I don’t need to ask anyone for permission.

I am my own boss and I can do as I please without worrying about what my employers think about me.

Now it’s time to unwind and reward myself with one of my very own bath treats.

No Regrets!!

It’s half term and I have 3 excited and overly active children around me. I have to come up with ideas of what to do as they get bored very quickly. But do you know what? I don’t really mind. I actually enjoy it.

Thankfully I have created a life that allows me to work from home and look after them. Gone are the days when I have to battle with work colleagues to apply for time off over the school period. Have you ever had that experience? There’s about 10 of you or it could be more, (and I’m not exaggerating), who all want the school holiday period off to look after their children.

Obviously it would put my employer in a difficult position because they needed someone to cover the office or appointments and some people were definitely not going to be happy with the decision. However, I don’t have to worry about those days.

I was fortunate enough to create a life which means that I can work from home enjoying what I do and not having to worry if the school telephones me to say that my children are ill and need picking up. I used to fret terribly when this happened because I sensed the “evil glares” from colleagues who felt that they had been put upon to take over my work as well as dealing with their own. I have to say that I felt as if I had let them done. That’s why I thought that something had to give so that I could be fair to all those around me, and in particular to my children, who were seeing less and less of me.

It was difficult to start with. When you have been working in a high adrenaline environment and then have to slow down, it can be quite a shock. However, I started to create an enjoyable world which fits around my lovely family and my new choice of work, and do you know something? I don’t have one regret!

Do You Want A Flexible Life?

Posted on April 30, 2015 by Melanie Brown

I used to lead a fairly hectic life where I would get up quite early in the morning to beat the rush hour. Whilst at work, I would get the odd call to collect my children from school or the nursery as one of them had fallen ill. I would feel guilty thinking that I had left my colleagues in the lurch and given them the additional burden of looking after my workload. If I managed to complete the whole day at work, I would often have to stay later to ensure that work was finished. There was no such thing as 9 to 5. I wanted to find something that would allow me the chance to spend more time with the family and not feel bad if an emergency rose. Then I was introduced to Phoenix.

I love Phoenix because it gives me the opportunity to work from home and fit it around my family. It allows me flexibility without having to worry about childcare if the children become ill.
