From a Baby’s Story to #SBS Small Business Sunday Recognition

I didn’t set out to win an award.

I set out to help my baby.

When my daughter was a baby, she suffered with a skin condition. Her skin would bleed, she couldn’t sleep properly, and as a mum, I felt helpless. I followed the advice, tried what I was told, and kept hoping the next product would bring relief.

It didn’t.

That experience changed everything. It made me question ingredients, labels, and the meaning of “gentle” skincare. I started learning about natural ingredients, how skin works, and how simple formulations can support sensitive skin rather than overwhelm it.

What began as a personal mission slowly became something bigger.

Mel’s Little Luxuries was born from that journey. Not from trends or marketing plans, but from lived experience, care, and integrity. I began making products with intention, keeping things simple and honest, and always asking: Would I use this on my own family?

Recently, I was honoured to be recognised as a #SBS Small Business Sunday winner, a national initiative run by Theo Paphitis that celebrates and supports small businesses across the UK.

Being selected as one of only six winners that day was incredibly special, not just because of the recognition, but because it acknowledged a business built from purpose, resilience, and heart.

For me, this award represents more than visibility.
It represents trusting your instincts as a parent.
Choosing a different path when something doesn’t feel right.
And building something meaningful from a very personal beginning.

Today, everything I create is still guided by that original story, supporting busy women and families who want skincare that feels safe, nourishing, and uncomplicated, and reminding them that self care doesn’t need to be elaborate to be powerful.

Thank you for supporting my small business and for being part of this journey.
