What's the most thoughtful gift we can offer to the incredible mothers in your lives?

I've discovered that the answer lies within the harmonious blend of nature's finest ingredients, carefully crafted into our luxurious soap bars. These bars not only cleanse but also nourish, thanks to the remarkable properties of avocado oil, olive oil, and shea butter.

Here's a glimpse into the skincare wonders they hold:

  1. Avocado Oil: Beyond its culinary prowess, avocado oil is a skincare superhero. Enriched with vitamins and essential fatty acids, it deeply moisturizes the skin without clogging pores. My soap bars, infused with avocado oil, offer a gentle cleanse that leaves skin feeling soft and hydrated - perfect for the busy mums who deserve a moment of indulgence.
  2. Olive Oil: Like a Mediterranean breeze, olive oil brings a touch of luxury to your daily skincare routine. Its antioxidant-rich formula nourishes and protects the skin, ensuring a radiant complexion with every use. Our soap bars, enriched with olive oil, provide a pampering experience that uplifts the senses and leaves skin feeling refreshed and revitalized.
  3. Shea Butter: Straight from the heart of Africa, shea butter is nature's gift to dry, thirsty skin. Renowned for its moisturizing properties, it locks in hydration and soothes irritation, making it an essential ingredient in our soap bars. Busy mums can rejoice knowing that each lather envelops them in a cocoon of comfort, leaving skin supple and glowing.

The Magic of Natural Handmade Skincare

Posted on December 13, 2023 by Melanie Brown

Illuminated wrapped Christmas presents

Are you ready for the festive season?

I've been busy preparing gorgeous smelling skincare goodies for Christmas. It so satisfying preparing natural handmade products which are lush and feed your skin.

Today, I'd like to share a little story with you – one that's close to my heart and has inspired my journey into creating natural, handmade skincare products.

One Christmas, my daughter and I received a beautiful gift that seemed perfect at first glance. It was a set of bath bombs, soaps and moisturiser, crafted to delight the senses with their gorgeous decorations and enchanting fragrances. As a bath bomb and soap enthusiast, I was thrilled. But then, something unexpected happened.

When I used the bath bomb, I immediately started sneezing. My daughter, after trying the soap and accompanying hand moisturiser, complained of itchy hands within minutes. Puzzled and concerned, we examined the ingredients and discovered they were mingled with synthetic elements. That was our lightbulb moment. We realized that our skin deserved better – it deserved natural, gentle care.

This experience is one of the reasons I was passionate about creating Mel's Little Luxuries, a haven for those who cherish their skin and seek a truly personal spa experience. These products are not just items; they're an embodiment of love, care, and the joy of nature. Each piece is handcrafted with the finest natural ingredients, ensuring that your skin receives the hydration and nourishment it deserves.

3 Top Questions I Am Asked About My Soap

Posted on April 26, 2023 by Melanie Brown

I've been making soaps for a number of years and have been asked a lot of questions about it.

Here are the top 3 questions I am asked about my soaps.

  1. What ingredients do you use in your handmade soap?
  2. How does handmade soap differ from commercially produced soap?
  3. Can your handmade soap help with skin conditions such as dryness or acne?

1. What ingredients do you use in your handmade soap?

I use natural ingredients when I make my soaps. I was influenced to do so as 2 of my 3 children had eczema and I wanted to find ingredients which would care for their skin. I therefore use products which are skin loving, hydrating and moisturizing.

My favourite ingredients to use are coconut oil, avocado oil, shea butter and olive oil. These oils and butters hydrate the skin and lock in the moisture. They are renowned for being soothing and calming.

2. How does soap differ from commercially produced soaps?

A soap maker who makes soaps from home, will get the best natural ingredients to make skin loving, preservative free and cruelty free soaps. They do not contain chemicals. Each bar is uniquely made with love and devotion.

Commercial soaps are mass produced and are more than likely to include preservatives to ensure that they have a longer shelf life. They occasionally contain chemicals which dry out the skin.

3. Can your handmade soap help with skin conditions such as dryness or acne?

As a general rule, I cannot give medical advice as I am not a doctor. However, I can say that the ingredients used within the recipes are renowned for hydrating and moisturizing the skin. There are natural ingredients such as tea tree oil and charcoal which when combined calm and soothe the skin.

I hope you found this information useful.

Please share it with someone who you know is concerned about the ingredients used in their skincare.

What Memories Do Scents Conjure Up for You?

Posted on October 14, 2022 by Melanie Brown

When you think of Christmas, what scents does it conjure up for you? 🫢

There are so many different smells but the one that strikes out to me is peppermint.

I remember visiting a Christmas stall in Germany. It was freezing cold and didn’t deter visitors to the market. I recall getting a mug of hot chocolate which had a delicious hint of peppermint.

The drink was warming and somehow made me forget about the cold weather.

My Green Clay, Mint and Kelp Soap bar reminds me of the same relaxed feeling.

Imagine that you have had a stressful day and you just want to unwind.

You set a warm bath and relax with a bar of Green Clay, Mint, and Kelp soap. It's as if you are in your own personal spa.

It is refreshing and uplifting and helps you to wash away the troubles of the day. It helps you to feel 'you' again.

Check out our Green Clay, Mint and Kelp Soap. It's beautifully hydrating and moisturising. It is a wonderful mood enhancer.

The green clay is renowned for its detoxifying properties.

This is a gorgeous pamper treat for yourself and an amazing gift for a friend or loved one. Who knows what memories this will create for you.

Are You Interested In Creating Your Own Skincare?

Posted on September 22, 2022 by Melanie Brown

Are you interested in making your own skincare? 🤔
Are you at the beginning of your skincare journey and run into a few challenges when making your own products?
I started soap making as a hobby, but it grew into a big interest when 2 of my children had dry skin issues. I was concerned about massed produced products, made with ingredients which often caused skin irritation.
My hobby then grew into a business which I love.
During this time, I have met clients who have been curious about the handmade cosmetic world.
People frequently asked me how they could:
🟢 Start a fun interesting hobby
🟢 Make their own products for the home
🟢 Get quality time bonding with their children
🟢 Save money making gifts
🟢 Make money from products that they create.
I'm going to be teaching you tips and tricks so that you can achieve these things. It's fun, enjoyable and liberating.
I will be opening the doors to my new Facebook Group on Monday 26th September 2022 at 9 am.
When you join How to Make Soaps, Bath Bombs, Body Butters & Lip Balms for Profit and Fun, you will be joining a community where you can develop skills and the confidence to make your own gorgeous products.
Here's the link again and I can't wait to see you in the group https://www.facebook.com/groups/soapswithmel/

Let's Celebrate The Awesomeness of Teachers!

Posted on July 09, 2021 by Melanie Brown

One thing that this past year has taught me is how incredibly amazing teachers are!

A lot of last year was spent on remote schooling. My kids were so lucky that they could still receive such a high standard of education under the guidance of their teachers.

Whilst they received a lot of help, sometimes they were left to do some independent work which the parents were tasked with supervising. It hit me like a hammer – it was hard work making sure everything was done and handed in on time! It showed me truly how much in-depth planning went into the lessons and how hard it is for teachers to keep children on task.

At home, I sometimes found the children wandering around the house or daydreaming when they should have been working. On a few of occasions, I struggled to reign them back in so that they would focus which helped me gain a new appreciation for the teachers that have to do this on a daily basis. They should really be acknowledged for this more regularly.
