There are moments at artisan markets that stay with you long after you've packed away your stall.
One of those moments happened recently when a couple stopped to browse my handmade soaps.
His wife was immediately drawn in. She picked up each bar, taking in the different fragrances and asking questions about how they were made.
He stood back with his arms folded.
Watching.
Waiting.
I couldn't help but smile because I had a feeling I knew exactly what he was thinking.
"It's just soap."
Then his wife picked up my Carrot, Orange & Ginger soap.
"Go on! Smell this one!" she encouraged.
Reluctantly, he leaned forward and took a breath.
Within seconds, his expression completely changed.
His eyebrows lifted.
A smile appeared.
Then he looked at me and said,
"Oh my goodness! The balance is just right!"
As we chatted, I discovered he was a chef.
Suddenly, his comment made perfect sense.
Chefs understand balance.
