It's Small Business Week, and it feels like the perfect time to reflect on why small businesses matter so much.
Behind every small business is a story.
Not just a business plan, a logo, or a product.
A real story.
For me, Mel's Little Luxuries began with my daughter.
When she was a baby, she suffered from severe eczema. She was uncomfortable, exhausted, and constantly scratching her skin. As a parent, it was heartbreaking to watch.
She wasn't sleeping properly.
She was losing weight.
She was miserable.
And if you've ever watched your child struggle while feeling powerless to help them, you'll understand the desperation I felt.
I spent countless hours searching for answers and looking for something that would soothe her skin naturally and help her feel comfortable again.
Eventually, I found someone who taught me how to create natural skincare products.
What happened next changed everything.
Slowly, her skin became calmer.
She became more comfortable.
She started sleeping.
She began putting weight back on.
Most importantly, she seemed happier.
As a mother, seeing that transformation was incredible.
What started as a mission to help my daughter soon became a passion for helping others.
Over the years, I've come to realise that skin often tells a story.
Today, many of the women I work with are busy, overwhelmed, stressed, and constantly putting themselves last.
And very often, that stress shows up on their skin.
Their skin feels sensitive.
Irritated.
Dry.
Uncomfortable.
They're exhausted and running on empty.
That's why Mel's Little Luxuries has grown into more than skincare.
It's about helping women create moments of calm.
It's about self care that feels achievable.
It's about supporting wellbeing naturally.
And it's about helping women feel comfortable and confident in their own skin again.
This Small Business Week, I'd like to thank every single person who has supported my journey.
Whether you've purchased a product, attended an event, recommended me to a friend, left a review, or simply followed along, you've helped make this mission possible.
When you support a small business, you're not simply buying a product.
You're supporting a story.
A purpose.
A dream.
And often, a desire to make life a little better for someone else.
So this week, I encourage you to support a small business you care about.
Leave a review.
Share their work.
Recommend them to a friend.
Because small acts of support can make a bigger difference than you might ever realise.
