Do You Want A Flexible Life?

Posted on April 30, 2015 by Melanie Brown

I used to lead a fairly hectic life where I would get up quite early in the morning to beat the rush hour. Whilst at work, I would get the odd call to collect my children from school or the nursery as one of them had fallen ill. I would feel guilty thinking that I had left my colleagues in the lurch and given them the additional burden of looking after my workload. If I managed to complete the whole day at work, I would often have to stay later to ensure that work was finished. There was no such thing as 9 to 5. I wanted to find something that would allow me the chance to spend more time with the family and not feel bad if an emergency rose. Then I was introduced to Phoenix.

I love Phoenix because it gives me the opportunity to work from home and fit it around my family. It allows me flexibility without having to worry about childcare if the children become ill. So What’s So Great About Argan Oil?

Posted on April 29, 2015 by Melanie Brown

Have you noticed everywhere you go, Argan oil can be seen on the shelves? It’s not just beauty shops but even the bargain shops. Everyone is raving about it. If you’ve read some of my earlier posts, you will have seen that one of my favourite hair products is the – Aluminé Argan and Macadamia Shampoo and Conditioner. Argan oil is a plant oil which is derived from the kernels of the Argan tree in Morocco. Moroccans traditionally use it with their bread for breakfast or drizzled on couscous or pasta. They also use unroasted Argan oil to treat skin diseases, and as a cosmetic oil for skin and hair. The question everyone is asking is, “Why is it so popular?” It contains Tocopherol which is Vitamin E. Vitamin E is great for protecting and repairing the skin. It is an excellent moisturizing oil with anti-oxidizing benefits. Here are 5 tips as to how you can use Argan oil and benefit from it:-

Hair – Argan oil is great for calming frizzy ends. It adds moisture to dry hair as well as shine.

Scalp- if you have dry scalp, you can dab your scalp with the oil. A good tip is to apply it just before bedtime and leave it in overnight. Simply wash it out the following morning.

Face- you can apply the oil directly to your face. Because of its qualities, it leaves your face looking smooth, clear and radiant.

Body – simply apply this to the body as you would a body lotion. For soft and silky results, apply straight after a hot bath or shower.

Hands- Argan oil is fantastic on the hands. You can use it on cuticles or nails.

The great thing about Argan Oil is the positive social and environmental impact it has created. Because the production of Argan oil has taken off in a big way, it has resulted in Argan trees being preserved as a valuable resource. In relation to the social impact, Moroccan women-cooperatives have been set up for the labour-intensive production of the oil. This means that women now have a regular source of income to sustain themselves and their families.

Why not try this oil and comment on this page about your experience using it.

Aluminé To The Rescue - Shampooing Made Easy!

Posted on April 24, 2015 by Melanie Brown

Do you find shampooing your children’s hair a chore? I do! As much as I love my children, I would rather do something else than wash their hair. This might sound terrible but let me explain why. My two eldest children are girls and they have long thick Afro Caribbean hair and it can take forever to comb out their hair and wash it. In addition, one of the girls absolutely hates having her hair shampooed and will quite literally scream the place down until the ‘ordeal’ has finished. This whole traumatic process leaves me feeling drained and fragile. Well that was until I found Aluminé. This product range was created by Peter Lamas who is the beauty guru to the stars. He has helped people such as Cindy Crawford the supermodel, Elizabeth Taylor and Sharon Stone. The beauty of these products is that they can be used by anyone, no matter what part of the world you come from. They are natural and contain no chemicals. I decided to try his Argan and Macadamia Shampoo and Conditioner because it is particularly good for people with frizzy, curly and coarse hair. I took a deep breath as I prepared my children for the challenge ahead and boy was I pleasantly surprised! When I used the shampoo on the girls, it left their hair feeling soft and silky. The conditioner can be applied straight after and then washed out. I have to say I was totally gobsmacked. Neither girl complained. Their hair was so easy to comb through. I actually completed the process in record breaking time without any stress.

There are other superb shampoos in The Aluminé range to suit different hair types. I can safely say that I love this product because it is natural, vegan friendly and has no chemicals. Peter Lamas has carefully prepared this product to ensure that you are getting the best quality combination of natural ingredients which are not harmful. This is definitely going to be my regular shampoo for the family.

What's Your Daily Cleansing Regime?

Posted on April 22, 2015 by Melanie Brown

It might sound silly but why is it so important to have a cleansing routine? Well, it removes impurities and make up with the result of a fresher complexion and hopefully no blemishes if it is done on a regular basis.

There are so many different products out there and you must always try to use products which are suitable for your skin otherwise they can cause more harm than it is good. At the moment I am using The Aluminé range which is vegan friendly.

There are many different cleansing regimes but here is a simple one that I recommend:

Cleanse

This part of the regime will remove impurities such as dirt, oil and bacteria. If they are not removed from the skin it will cause breakouts as a result of pores becoming blocked. Cleansing is also fantastic for stimulating the blood circulation in your face, leaving you with a fresh glowing appearance. Cleansing simply involves lathering the cleanser into your hands and applying it to the skin and neck in an upward circular motion for a few minutes. Rinse the face with water and pat dry. Never rub the face with towel as this can cause damage to the skin

Tone

It is really important to tone the skin as it prepares it for moisturising and it balances the skin’s pH. Try not to use alcohol on your skin as this can be too harsh and have a dehydrating effect on your face which makes it look dull. Some toners are applied simply by using a cotton ball to the face and neck. The face is then left to dry.

Moisturize

Moisturising hydrates the skin and gives it a soft and silky feel. Be careful to pick the right product for your skin type and ensure that it provides protection from the sun. When applied, rub from the neck to the face in an upward motion.

Following a daily cleansing routine will ensure that you have gorgeous healthy skin.

How effective is sun block?

Posted on April 22, 2015 by Melanie Brown

Recently I went on a trip with my children and went full armed with sun protection. It was for sensitive skin and it had an SPF of 50+. I plastered the kids from head to toe with it as I was determined that they would not be burnt. They spent an incredible amount of time in the pool but I still reapplied the product to them all. Imagine my surprise when my eldest caught the sun on her face and my second daughter got irritation on her forearm. How could this be? I had spent a fortune to make sure that they were properly protected from sun burn. Boy was I disappointed! So my question is, does sunscreen/sun block really work? After my experience I have come up with the following 7 tips to ensure that we can all have a happy holiday free from sunburn:

  1. Don’t be over confident with sunscreen with a high SPF. Research has illustrated that sunscreen that is at least SPF 15, blocks 93 percent of UVB rays. SPF 30 only provides an extra four percent protection—the difference isn't as huge as you'd think, so don't be overconfident in your number.
  2. Stay away from sunscreen containing vitamin A. Whilst this is ok for diets, it is not good on the skin as it has been found to increase the risk of cancer.
  3. Avoid sunscreens that are said to contain parabens. These have been found to be detrimental to skin care.
  4. Look for sunscreens which contain physical sun blockers in particular zinc oxide and titanium dioxide which are safe to use. They create a physical barrier between the skin and the sun’s harmful rays
  5. Try to use a sunscreen without fragrance as this can cause skin irritation
  6. Quite simply you can say out of the sun during the peak hours between 11am to 4pm. Stay in the shade and wear long sleeves and sunglasses to protect the eyes.
  7. Always reapply sunscreen after you or the children have come out of the pool. Although the label on the bottle says that the product is “waterproof” it will easily wash off.

Follow these tips and you will be sure to have a fabulous holiday!
