Is Smoking Damaging To The Skin?

Posted on August 25, 2015 by Melanie Brown

Do you smoke? Why do you do it?

I bet if you do, it’s because it’s a way of relaxing. I’ve heard some people say that they do it because it keeps them slim. Whatever the reason, have you heard about the consequences of smoking?

Do you really understand what smoking can do to your skin?

Research indicates that the chemicals in cigarettes are hazardous to your skin.

So why is smoking even more damaging to the skin than the sun?

It ages the skin which means a possible increase in the risk of cancer.

Wrinkled skin is also a negative side effect of smoking. This is due to the collagen in the skin becoming damaged and ruining the elasticity which means that the appearance of your skin is less toned.

Smoking depletes Vitamins A, C and E which are essential antioxidants responsible for the production of collagen which firms and tones your skin.

Other known effects of smoking on the skin are:-

  • The reduction in the skin’s ability to repair itself
  • The flow of oxygen is slowed down by smoking which means that the skin is unable to carry out its rejuvenation functions
  • Dehydration and this can be seen with the effects around the wrinkled mouth and eyes

The best advice? Give up smoking. It will help to improve your appearance.
