Give Yourself the Gift of a Time Out This Mother’s Day

Posted on March 30, 2019 by Melanie Brown

As a working mother I understand that need to take a time out. I’m fortunate that creating my little luxuries allows me to work with incredible, natural ingredients that offer my clients (and myself) a range of fabulous products to make that much needed time out even better.

What would you do with a spare hour?

  • Read a book: My favourite author is Shelley Wilson and I’ll happily escape into their fictional world for an hour. Who’s your favourite author?
  • Go for a walk: Getting out in nature is one of the best gifts you can give yourself as it boosts your endorphins – our happiness hormone.
  • Have a soak: Lighting a few candles and escaping into the bathroom for an indulgent hour is a great way to take a time out.

Having a luxurious bath is my go to choice when I need to unwind and de-stress, and the perfect accompaniment is one of my fun, fizzy bath bombs (yes, they’re great for adults! Who said kids should have all the fun?)

What does Mel Recommend?

In the shop at the moment we have Jasmine Rose Bath Bombs which look good enough to eat! These gorgeous must haves contain Shea butter which moisturises the skin whilst you’re in the bath and come as a pack of 2 so there’s no excuse not to have more than one time out!

What’s available in the shop?

So What’s So Special About Mel’s Little Luxuries

Posted on August 06, 2016 by Melanie Brown

I know!

You are tired of the constant advertising and requests to buy this outstanding product and buy that. Then along comes Mel’s Little Luxuries. Well, who or what is that? What do they want you to buy?

I started this business out of a hobby. With 3 gorgeous children and a full time job, I needed to find some precious time for myself. So I started soap making and realised that I enjoyed it. It was fun creating something from scratch, but you have total control over what ingredients go into the products.

This got me thinking. If you are like me, you probably get fed up with the number of products out there on the market and you have no idea what they contain. When you try reading the labels, you are simply blinded by science.

For me this is quite worrying because 2 of my little angels have eczema and the prescriptions they were getting, weren’t helping and sometimes seemed to cause more of an irritation.

Now I was involved in soap making, it made me realise that I could craft a gentle product which could help with soothing their skin. I therefore started to take things a little more seriously.

I went on a number of courses and out of that Mel’s Little Luxuries was born. I create natural handmade products such as body butters, lip balms, soaps and bath bombs. They make great gifts, pamper treats and the natural ingredients have been known to help with making the skin look vibrant, healthy and glowing.

So that’s what Mel’s Little Luxuries is all about.

If you care about your skin and are looking at ways to keep a healthy and youthful appearance, why not pop over to to take a look at the products on offer. They are lovingly made and you will find something for everyone.

What is so special about bath bombs?

Posted on October 13, 2015 by Melanie Brown

Well you have probably seen lots of bath fizzies or bath bombs in a few of your beauty shops and wondered what’s the big deal about them.

They are quite simply a bath treat. You put them in the water and they just fizz away. My children love them especially when I make them in the shapes of their favourite characters.

I usually add in shea butter for its hydrating qualities. It nourishes and moisturizes the skin leaving it with a soft and silky feel.
But bath bombs can have other uses:-

1. A D.I.Y spa at home – dim the lights and put out a few relaxing candles to enhance your mood. The scents from the bath bombs will make you feel as if you are in a luxury spa environment.

2. They are great for sinus relief. If you can buy a bath bomb with eucalyptus oil, it is great for colds and relieving blocked noses.

3. Bath bombs can be fabulous for aromatherapy. These products usually contain essential oils which are great for enhancing moods, and dealing with anxiety, stress and depression.

Here are a few suggestions of helpful essential oils:-

• Lavender essential oils are good for helping with depression and stress.
• Rose essential oils are also renowned for helping with depression as well as having a fragrant sweet scent.
• Lemon oil is refreshing and uplifting.
• Peppermint aids with headaches and nausea.

I even have a few friends who love their bath bombs so much, that they refuse to use them and put them on a lovely display dish just so that the environment takes on the fragrance of their treat.
